St. Albert Priory BBQ - College Ave closed Sunday!

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

As an addendum to yesterday’s Arch & Vine I would like to warn you that College Avenue will be closed on this Sunday when we’re all trying to get from Berkeley to the Priory!

Pete has nicely come up with the following alternate directions:

At intersection on Ashby and Claremont
- turn up Tunnel Road
- after light bear to right onto The Uplands
- at 5-way stop go down Roanoke

- enter driveway at North end of Priory property (6172 Chabot Rd, Oakland, CA)
- Park on volleyball court.

PARKING
- Enter from Priory property from Chabot Rd.
- The driveway is at the North end of the Priory wrought iron fence.
- Park on the volleyball/tennis court.

    Western Dominicans Explore the Iraqi Refugee Crisis

    Time: 9:00 a.m.
    Location: St. Mary Magdalen Parish (2005 Berryman Street), Parish Hall
    Presenters include two Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena of Mosul, Iraq, Diana and Rihab, Sr. Arlene Flaherty, O.P. who just returned from a Catholic Relief Services fact-finding mission in Syria and Lebanon, and Fr. John Morris, O.P., a professor of theology at St. Mary’s College in Moraga. The presenters will address the Iraqi Refugee Crisis from different perspectives. The day will also include reflection, small group discussion, and timely action. There will be an hour for lunch and Fr. Morris will celebrate the Eucharist at 4:00 p.m. Advanced registration, using the form attached to the Arch & Vine e-mail, is strongly encouraged, or you can come to the event between 8:00-8:45 a.m. to register. We hope to see you there!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Student Job Opening
    DSPT is looking for a student to coordinate the lunches on Tuesdays. The student would be responsible for planning and preparing the lunches, including set-up and clean-up. This position would be approximately 5 hours/week, with the possibility for additional hours for assisting with other DSPT events. This is a great opportunity and a fun way to earn some extra money. A detailed job description and application is available from Elissa at the front desk. The application deadline is Friday, October 3.   • Wireless in the GTU Library!
    WiFi is now available in the GTU Library! Use you op.dspt.edu e-mail address to create a GTU WiFi account. Just bring your laptop to the Library and select the GTUWireless network. When you open your web browser, you’ll be taken to a sign-up page. Just follow the directions on the page to sign up!

Director of Communications – Diocese of Oakland, Oakland

The Director of Communications supports the Bishop in his role as teacher and shepherd as a member of the Bishop’s Administrative Council (BAC) and advises the Bishop on policy decisions. S/he directs and supervises all official communication initiatives of the diocese, including strategic communications, media relations, media-based ministries, and electronic communications; functions as the official media spokesperson and communications consultant for the bishop; and provides strategic communications direction to diocesan offices and media training for departments and parishes.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
  • BA in journalism, communications, public relations or related field. Catholic theological education preferred.
  • At least seven years of professional experience in journalism, broadcasting, public relations or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing crisis communications.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including writing and copyediting.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills in working with staff and all internal and external contacts. Understanding and appreciation of the multicultural diversity of the Oakland Diocese.
  • Experience managing budgets and developing work plans.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Practicing Catholic with demonstrated knowledge of the Catholic Church.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strategic Communications: Work collaboratively to identify, develop and implement effective internal and external communications strategies toward accomplishing diocesan goals and objectives.
  • Bishop’s Media Consultant and Spokesperson: Advise and support the bishop in matters of strategic communications and media relations
  • Media-based Ministries: Associate Publisher of The Catholic Voice and serve as the Bishop’s Delegate of El Heraldo Católico
  • Electronic Communications: Develop the strategic direction for diocesan Internet presence and manage its implementation in collaboration with the diocesan webmaster.
